MICHIGAN CITY, IN – Northern Indiana's longest-running, free fishing contest, Skamania Mania, is set for June 30 and July 1 as part of the Michigan City Summer Festival.
Brought together and sponsored by the Northwest Indiana Steelheaders and Cabela's, the 23rd annual event features no entry fee, no preregistration, and is open to the public. All anyone has to do is go fish - and be lucky enough to land a steelhead.
The 12 largest steelies caught over the two days win gift cards to Cabelas, starting with $200 for first place and going down to $25 for 12th. The 13th place fish wins a $225 rod and reel combo.
Fishing times are 12:01 a.m., June 30 through 4 p.m., July 1. All of Lake Michigan and its' tributaries may be fished. Weigh-in will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the Steelheaders tent on the south side of the Michigan City harbor.
